Someone said that evoking a Goetic Demon against your enemy was the same thing as standing in a phone booth with a bomb strapped to your chest, then phoning up your enemy and exploding the bomb. This viewpoint clearly comes from the presumption that Goetic entities are really and truly (and only) a part of your brain, and do not exist outside your own Brass Vessel (your head).
This Occultist is not entirely convinced. I’ve witnessed, and also have been a part of, many working in which the Jinn were unleashed against a deserving insignificant, and the results were impressive.
Witness a working done quite some time ago, in England. I won’t mention the Magician’s name (it’s unimportant to the discussion) but he is a well known Occultist and Chaos Magician. The entity evoked was Haures. The working went exceedingly well.
(withheld) then gave the intent, ordering Haures to go forth and bedevil the target, ad-libbing the curse and adding take your thirty six legions, whereupon (withheld) suddenly saw a horde of small black spindly-limbed beings flitting around the circle, whilst (withheld) later reported a host of black demons gleefully dancing around the circle.
The result was that the intended target of the working ceased his destructive behaviour and had a tendency to babble and was referred to a shrink. In other words, the working affected the victim psychologically.
Becoming unbalanced is the primary danger in Magick. And it’s usually self inflicted. It isn’t really a case of leaning outside the circle and being instantly seized. At least I’ve never seen that.
I know some people who insist on invoking the same Deity from the same Pantheon, over and over. This, to me, is a mistake. If you invoke the same entity consistently, you run the danger of obsession. I’ve heard of necromantic workings where the Occultists (?) sought to summon the shade of Aleister Crowley. This went on for months. Last I heard of these guys, one of them is claiming that he is, in fact, The Beast. And is obsessed with screwing as many women as possible while reciting lewd poetry.
It is my opinion that entities of the Goetia can be used for all sorts of purposes, and not all of them good. Then again, a punch in the nose is powerful Magick too. And much quicker.

If it were truly a “phone booth” situation then I think Magicians would have figured out that all the “cursing” wasn’t working. Fact is that it can and does work, no matter if you think of the entities as a part of your subconscious or separate, something affects something else and there is an affect.
